Variation of ink Types for Diverse Printing Process

For every kind of written communication ink is the first and foremost requirement is of ink. For every sorts of print media ink is mandatory. For printing in different surfaces different kinds of inks are available in the market. in this article we will focus upon two major types known as Flexographic and Gravure.

At first let’s discuss about Flexographic Printing ink. The question that comes to the mind is that what is Flexographic ? It is a process of printing mainly on non porous substances like cardboard boxes, food packaging, paper and plastic bags, newspapers. Even there are types in Flexographic ink like
  • ·         Water based
  • ·         UV curable
  • ·         Solvent

The type of ink which is required depends upon the substance on which the printing would take place. The popularity of this ink is due to its eco-friendly nature and low cost.
The second type of ink is Gravure Printing ink. This ink is required when Gravure printing is done. It is a process of printing where the image that is to be printed is engraved in the cylinder which then is transferred into the printing surface. Gravure printing is also called rotogravure printing.
Rotogravure printings are done on materials like polyester, OPP, nylon. One of the advantages of Gravureprinting is that it has the ability to print on thin surfaces like that of polyester. Rotogravure Printing inks like Flexographic ink are water based, solvent based and of less thickness. Due to its less viscous nature this ink are placed within the cylinder. Water based Gravureink are used in food packaging industry.
Both Flexographic ink and Gravureink have similar constituents. Now a day’s companies are creating these inks keeping in mind the concept of environment sustainability.
